چکیده

An isolated skull of a procolophonid is described from the Owl Rock Member of the Chinle Formation in the Abajo Mountains of southeast Utah. Although poorly preserved, this specimen exhibits features that demonstrate a phylogenetic relationship with leptopleuronine procolophonids. These include the dentition, the greatly expanded orbitotemporal opening, the prominent quadratojugal spikes, and the shape of the jugal. Nicholas C. Fraser. Calcareous paleosols of the Upper Triassic Chinle Group, Four Corners region, southwestern United States: Climatic implications

Paleosols are prominent features of the Upper Triassic Chinle Group. The oldest (Carnian-age) formations of the Chinle Group (Zuni Mountains and Shinarump Formations) contain kaolinitic paleosols that display gley features but generally lack calcretes. Paleosols of the (Upper Carnian) Blue Mesa Member of the Petrifi ed Forest Formation are mostly mature Alfi sols that have distinctive horizonat...

Tetrapod Fauna of the Upper Triassic (revueltian) Owl Rock Formation, Chinle Group, Arizona

The Owl Rock Formation, upper Chinle Group, crops out in the Four Corners area. In the 1980s, Kirby made an extensive collection of vertebrate fossils from the Owl Rock Formation in the Ward Terrace area, northeastern Arizona. We review the Owl Rock tetrapod fauna and refine the taxonomic assignments provided by previous workers. The Owl Rock Formation tetrapod assemblage thus consists of: meto...

Isotopic Composition of Carbonate Facies in Formations of the Upper Triassic Chinle Group, Four Corners Area, Southwestern United States

Carbonates of the Ojo Huelos Member of the San Pedro Arroyo Formation include ostracodal limestones, brecciated micritic limestones, vuggy, mottled limestones, peloidal graistones/packstones, pisolitic rudstones and nodular limestones. These lithofacies record deposition in lacustrine, palustrine and alluvial environments. Lacustrine (ostracodal) limestones are isotopically heaviest, with nodul...

An Aetosaur (reptilia:archosauria) from the Upper Triassic Chinle Group, Canyonlands National Park, Utah

A partial skeleton of the aetosaur Stagonolepis sp. is the first tetrapod body fossil recovered from Upper Triassic strata in Canyonlands National Park. The specimen consists of a partial tooth and numerous disarticulated vertebrae, ribs, and scutes found in the Blue Mesa Member of the Petrified Forest Formation (Chinle Group) near Upheaval Dome. Stagonolepis is an index taxon of the Adamanian ...
